Frequently Asked Questions

Everything healthcare providers ask before switching. If you don't see your question here, call us directly at (786) 622-2214.

Regulated medical waste (RMW) includes any solid or liquid waste generated in the diagnosis, treatment, or immunization of humans or animals — including sharps, red bag waste, pathological waste, and chemotherapy waste. In Florida, RMW is governed by FDOH Chapter 64E-16 and must be handled, stored, and transported by a licensed transporter.

Florida requires all generators of regulated medical waste to use a licensed biomedical waste transporter, maintain proper containment (red bags, approved sharps containers), keep waste secured and labeled, and retain manifest records for a minimum of 3 years. Under Florida Administrative Code Rule 64E-16.004(1)(a), storage of biomedical waste at the generating facility must not exceed 30 days. The 30-day period begins when the first non-sharps item of biomedical waste is placed into a red bag or sharps container, or when a sharps container containing only sharps is sealed.

Any facility that generates regulated medical waste is required by law to use a licensed disposal service. This includes medical offices, hospitals, urgent care centers, dental offices, veterinary clinics, pharmacies, surgery centers, dialysis centers, laboratories, tattoo studios, funeral homes, and home health providers, among others.

Red biohazard bags are for regulated medical waste that is not sharps — including blood-soaked materials, dressings, gloves, and other items contaminated with potentially infectious materials. Sharps (needles, scalpels, lancets) must go into rigid, puncture-resistant FDA-cleared sharps containers. Do not mix chemotherapy waste, pharmaceutical waste, or chemical waste with red bag waste.

Container needs and collection arrangements depend on the facility and service scope. Share your location and sharps waste details to confirm available container options, accepted materials, pickup planning and documentation.

Medication waste and controlled substances are separate service categories. Exodus does not currently transport RCRA-regulated hazardous waste under its own EPA Identification Number. Controlled-substance requests are coordinated through service partners; confirm roles, accepted materials, service coverage and available records with the team.

Documentation depends on the service arranged and the materials involved. Ask which records are included for your facility and retain them with your records.

Requirements and service roles depend on the waste stream and location. Contact the team to confirm applicable qualifications, coverage and service partners for the specific request.

Exodus offers business document shredding information, including on-site and off-site options. Confirm available methods, accepted materials and documentation for your request.

Timing depends on the waste stream, location and service arrangements. Share your facility address and needs so the team can discuss possible collection timing.

Service terms depend on the program arranged. Review your current agreement and discuss timing, scope and terms with the team before making a change.

Service coverage depends on the service type and location. Contact the team with your facility address to confirm whether service can be arranged.

Pricing depends on the material, facility and requested service. Request a quote with details about your location and waste streams; compare the proposed scope and terms with your current service.

Call (786) 622-2214 to discuss an unscheduled request. Response and collection timing depend on location, waste stream and service availability.

Ask the team whether training or waste segregation support is available for your facility and service arrangement.
